Our industrial hemp-fibre compost blended with farm-produced biochar gives a scientifically robust soil amendment for fruit, vegetables and garden use. The porous structure of biochar increases soil water-holding capacity and improves retention of nutrients, while the hemp hurds add stable, ligno-cellulosic organic matter that improves soil structure and tilth. Peer-reviewed meta-analyses and field studies show consistent gains in available water and hydraulic function when biochar is added, and trials have recorded substantial increases in cation-exchange capacity (CEC) and small rises in soil pH that together reduce leaching and make nutrients more plant-available. For practical use we recommend a blended approach: charge or mature the biochar within compost (or mix at 5–20% biochar by volume into compost/potting mixes, with ~10% a common starting point for gardens) so the char’s pore network is inoculated with nutrients and microbes before planting. Hemp-fibre compost contributes stable carbon and slow-release nutrients while the biochar helps retain available N, P and K in the root zone — delivering measurable improvements to water retention, nutrient holding and soil biology without rapid nutrient flushes.
